Jolly LLB 2 is a film that highlights the nexus of corrupt police department, fraudulent judiciary and notorious criminals. It throws light on the plight of the common man who finds himself entangled in this messy net. It highlights the unfortunate condition of the courts in the country. It’s the story of a lawyer whose conscience compels him to take on this nexus and bring justice to the bereaved victim.
Jolly LLB was a jolly good film and when the second movie in the franchise stars Akshay Kumar, the bar of expectation rises.
Jagdishwar Misra aka Jolly (Akshay Kumar) practises in the Lucknow High court and dreams of having his own chamber. He starts by working under a top lawyer but ends up doing his petty jobs. To fulfil his dream, he swindles a pregnant widow (Sayani Gupta) who is seeking justice. Tragedy strikes and jolts Jolly’s conscience. Here beings the journey for justice.
The director Subhash Kapoor holds the attention of the audience throughout the film. The film is very well researched. It has its laugh-out-loud moments too. The director also brings in light humour when the mood of the film becomes tensed. This makes the courtroom drama enjoyable. The movie does feel a little stretched at times. It could have done away with its songs, as the music is not impactful.
Pushpa (Huma Qureshi), the wife of Jolly is smitten with Gucci dresses and loves whisky. She has done justice to her role but the film doesn’t have much to offer her. Mathur (Annu Kapoor) is a rich top-notch lawyer who plays the adversary to Jolly in the court. He delivers an enthralling performance. Saurabh Shukla is flawless in his performance as the Judge.
To sum up, Jolly LLB 2 is a delightful watch.
