About the Book
The book is aptly titled, as it is truly about Sonali’s experiments with her parenting style and her learnings. The book is like a journal where the author chronicles her life from her son’s birth to the time he is 9 years old (the point in time when she penned down the book)
The book tries to answer all the questions that loom in a parent’s mind, while walking the tight rope of the do’s and don’ts of parenting. This book helps a new-age parent find a balance between tradition and modernity.
The Modern Gurukul is about how ‘a parent’is ‘a child expert’and not ‘a parenting expert’. This book advocates the golden rule of parenting, ‘What works for a child may not work for another’. Every parent and child are unique and hence are justified in their unique ways.
It is ok to crumble and crack under the pressure of parenting. It is ok because the pressure is not a mild one but an unsurmountable one. It is the pressure of nurturing a new life (something that is next to godliness).
For me, this book was so me. It was like reading my thoughts as a new-mum on paper. I wish I had read this book pre-delivery. It would have helped me calm down my nerve, post-delivery. I advise every mother and especially a mother-to-be to get their hands on this book. It shall help them calm down their new-found anxieties.
The best part about the book is that it is not preachy. The book is an honest and a personal account of Sonali’s life as a mother. The author has done a phenomenal job and hence, the book is a must read.
